Tempting Tendencies

Knock,

Knock,

Knock,

He is rapping on my door.

It grows louder;

He’s impatient;

He wants in.

I won’t let him.

Sin is peeking through, daring me to let him in;

I close my doors and windows; I can’t let him win.

Still, he knocks.

Knock,

Knock,

Knock,

He is banging on my door.

It grows louder;

He’s impatient;

He wants in.

I can’t let him.

He threatens me with death, scares me to come near;

I am human and this hurts, I can’t help but shed a tear.

Still, he knocks.

Knock,

Knock,

Knock,

He is tapping on my door.

It grows louder;

He’s impatient;

He wants in.

I shouldn’t let him.

He bribes with sweet words, tempts me with the lies.

He smiles and beckons, telling me ‘be wise’.

Still, he knocks.

Knock,

Knock,

Knock,

He is breaking down my door.

It grows louder;

He’s impatient;

He wants in.

I’ll never let him.

His promises are void, mere words meant to entice;

His threats will never scar me, he fills them all with vice.

Still, he knocks.

Knock,

Knock,

Knock,

He still knocks on my door.

It grows louder;

He’s impatient;

He wants in.

Does he not know?

I’ve already locked the door, sin won’t enter in my heart,

For I’ve got Jesus at my window promising a fresh start.

Still, he knocks.

I’m not immune,

I’m not strong,

I can’t not let him in,

But Jesus is stronger

And with him alone I’ll win.

So sin can scare me,

Sin can dare me,

But I’ll never let him tear me,

So knock.
